TED Talk With The Creator of the Linux Kernel, Linus Torvalds

Watch this TED Talk from the creator of Linux, Linus Torvalds. A pioneer for the Internet.

Linus Torvalds transformed technology twice — first with the Linux kernel, which helps power the Internet, and again with Git, the source code management system used by developers worldwide. In a rare interview with TED Curator Chris Anderson, Torvalds discusses with remarkable openness the personality traits that prompted his unique philosophy of work, engineering and life. “I am not a visionary, I’m an engineer,” Torvalds says. “I’m perfectly happy with all the people who are walking around and just staring at the clouds … but I’m looking at the ground, and I want to fix the pothole that’s right in front of me before I fall in.”

According to Demographic, Ubuntu Powers Almost Everything

According to an article on Ubuntu.com, a demographic was posted with research done that shows the powerhouse of Ubuntu.

According to the article, the streaming service Netflix, the transportation service Uber and even the International Space Station all run on Ubuntu.

The list doesn’t stop there, with other major names such as Dropbox, Tesla and even Snapchat.

To celebrate our upcoming 16.04 LTS we wanted to shine a bit of light on how many people in the world actually use Ubuntu. As users aren’t required to register their installation, devices are pre-loaded with the software and servers powered by Ubuntu – this means it’s not as easy to track users. However the reality is, hundreds of millions of  PCs, servers, devices, virtual machines, and containers have booted Ubuntu to date and are in use!

The demographic was created by Ubuntu blogger, Dustin Kirkland of the Product team.

Libre Office Version 5.1.2 Released

A Libre Office developer just announced the release of Libre Office 5.1.2 with over 75 bug fixes.

The announcement read:

The Document Foundation (TDF) announces LibreOffice 5.1.2, the second minor release of the LibreOffice 5.1 family.

LibreOffice 5.1.2 is targeted at technology enthusiasts, early adopters and power users. For more conservative users, and for enterprise deployments, TDF suggests the “still” version: LibreOffice 5.0.5. For enterprise deployments, The Document Foundation suggests the backing of professional support by certified people (a list is available at: http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/professional-support/).

LibreOffice 5.1.2 is the second point release in the current stable and most advanced version of the office suite pre-installed in numerous GNU/Linux operating systems by default.

This update comes about a month after the 5.1.1 update, which got many reports of bugs found while using the software.

You can download the latest version of Libre Office here: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/

Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 Released

The Debian Project proudly announced the release of the Debian GNU/Linux 8.4.

Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 “Jessie” is the fourth update in the latest stable series of the acclaimed GNU/Linux operating systems, and it comes as an update, today, for all users running Debian GNU/Linux 8.3 “Jessie” or previous versions.

The announcement:

The Debian project is pleased to announce the fourth update of its stable distribution Debian 8 (codename jessie). This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available.

Please note that this update does not constitute a new version of Debian 8 but only updates some of the packages included. There is no need to throw away old jessie CDs or DVDs but only to update via an up-to-date Debian mirror after an installation, to cause any out of date packages to be updated.

Those who frequently install updates from security.debian.org won’t have to update many packages and most updates from security.debian.org are included in this update.

New installation media and CD and DVD images containing updated packages will be available soon at the regular locations.

Upgrading to this revision online is usually done by pointing the aptitude (or apt) package tool (see the sources.list(5) manual page) to one of Debian’s many FTP or HTTP mirrors. A comprehensive list of mirrors is available at:

The entire post can be found here: https://www.debian.org/News/2016/20160402
The Installation ISOs will be released soon by the Debian Developers for Debian 8.4 “Jessie”.

Computer Repair in Plainfield Illinois

Computer repair in Plainfield, Illinois is a very much needed service. Currently there are no computer stores in Plainfield. There aren’t any stores that exclusively sell computer parts. Yet there is a huge need. Plainfield is a rapidly growing town with an above average household income. Plainfield is boarded on the North by the very successful City of Naperville. Naperville also has had a dearth of computer stores, although that has changed recently.

A look at the Village of Plainfield’s economic development site shows an above average spending inclination amongst the citizenry of Plainfield. This shows that there is a dire need amongst the residents in Plainfield for a computer store. Although the computer repair market isn’t as strong as it once was, computer repair is still a service that is in demand.

Casanova is the premier computer repair service provider in Plainfield, although Casanova’s Shorewood location is very accessible to Plainfield’s residents, this is not the best scenario for citizens. Casanova always look to serve the community as best it can and is now investigating the best location for a Plainfield proper, office.

We believe that an office location within the official boundaries of the village will provide citizens optimal access to computer repair services. Plainfield citizens are very educated and tech savvy and need a place to purchase memory, have their computers repaired, and have viruses removed.

Casanova is looking forward to making computer repair more accessible to Plainfield proper.
