WATCH: Overview UbuntuQT 16.04

This is a custom Ubuntu ISO build for development and testing of the latest LXQt code. It uses the LXQt ppa, so there is some risk of explosion (but in my experience is very stable). I tried to get the best Qt applications available, which in my taste means some KDE apps. THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL ISO.

This is my personal preference, it is a very minimal style, but LXQt can be tweaked to look as whatever you like.

Linux Distro To Try: Korora 24

Korora was born out of a desire to make Linux easier for new users, while still being useful for experts. The main goal of Korora is to provide a complete, easy-to-use system for general computing. Originally based on Gentoo Linux in 2005, Korora was re-born in 2010 as a Fedora Remix with tweaks and extras to make the system “just work” out of the box.

Announcement on Korora 24 read:

Changes in Korora 24: Images are 64-bit only, 32-bit users can still upgrade. Over the last few versions the demand for 32-bit ISOs has markedly decreased to the point where we feel it’s no-longer necessary to provide install images for the platform. Starting with Korora 24, images will be 64-bit (x86_64) only, however those who have 32-bit systems already are still able to upgrade to Korora 24. If you have been running 32-bit Korora on 64 bit hardware we strongly encourage you to install the 64-bit version instead. No KDE Plasma release yet. We would dearly love to have a KDE iso ready to go, but we ran into a number of issues and decided to not let this hold up the release of Korora 24. It is possible to upgrade a Korora 23 install of KDE to Korora 24 however there are some settings such as themes may need to be manually set up again.

Korora 24 is the newest version of the Linux distribution.

Linux Distro To Try: Tanglu

Tanglu is a Debian-based Linux distribution which aims to provide the best desktop experience for regular users and enthusiasts. Compared to Debian GNU/Linux, Tanglu plans to offer a number of user-friendly, desktop-oriented features such as availability of newer software, inclusion of extra firmware by default, and a regular, time-based release cycle.

Tanglu has just released their beta for Tanlgu, Beta 4. The release announcement read:

We are pleased to announce the release of the second development
version of Tanglu 4, which includes the KDE, GNOME and Core flavors!

This beta release contains many changes - most notably, imports from
Debian are frozen now and we ship with our final versions of KDE and

It also contain the following highlights:
 * systemd 229
 * Linux 4.6
 * KDE Plasma 5.6
 * GNOME 3.20

We are planning to update Mesa to 12.0 and also update the kernel
prior to doing the final release of Tanglu 4.

When testing Tanglu 4 Beta, please keep in mind that it is a
development snapshot release and still contains rough edges.
As always, we ship with less packages than Debian does, due to reduced
manpower and transitions that have been done.
In case you miss any package you need, please file a bug. It is likely
that the packages will be reintroduced anyway very soon, but by filing
a bug you can ensure that the package is taken care of.
If you experience problems with the Beta release, you might find help
on the forums[1] - or simply report a bug[2].

Known issues for the Beta include the live-installer only launching
from terminal in the GNOME flavor, and the GNOME flvavor not showing
GDM if run in VirtualBox, unless you boot with "quiet splash" removed
from the kernel command line.
