Ubuntu 16.10 Will Be Codenamed Yakkety Yak

Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth announced the codename of the next major Ubuntu Linux release, Ubuntu 16.10.

16.10 will be the next major release for Ubuntu, due later this year.

The development cycle of Ubuntu 16.10 will start in a few days and it will be launched later this year at the end of October.

In an announcement on Mark’s website,

Mark posted:

Y is for …Yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yak. Naturally.

Ubuntu 16.10 will have only a Final Beta development build sent to public beta testers, as the rest of the opt-in flavors will also participate in the Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Beta1 releases.
